Robert Mapplethorpe at the Grand Palais, Paris. 26 March-13 July 2014

Not to be missed either is a tribute to NYC photograph Robert Mapplethorpe at the Grand Palais. The self-taught artist who prematurely died of AIDS in 1989 was major figure of the artsy New York scene of the 1970s and 1980s. His work was mostly articulated around black and white portraits, nudes or still-life and has often been tagged scandalous for being openly provocative yet highy stylised. The exhibition shows about 200 photos which celebrate Mapplethorpe’s obvious talent for classical compositions in which his nudes and highy erotic-charged pictures seems to reach an for aesthetic perfection.
