Oblix at the Shard: smart dining with the most dramatic views on London

Friday night while in London, I was taken to the Shard Tower – the amazing 309 m high new tower designed by architect Renzo Piano in the heart of the City – which is home to nothing less than the Shangri-La hotel and some very smart dining venues such as Oblix, the new chic busy restaurant situated on the 32nd floor. Needless to say, the view from the huge glass windows at night is surely one of the best on London!

I really enjoyed the sleek, modern design, earth colours tones and flickering candles light decor, subtle details such as the open kitchen and the arty library. The whole atmosphere of the place has a NYC feel to it with a jazz band playing live before us, very nice!

The food was a great surprise too, and worth the hype! The renowned chef and founder Rainer Becker that offers a sophisticated cuisine, world-influenced and a wide choice menu.

Starters includes the popular burrata, steak tartare, aubergine caviar lobster and scallop ceviche with jalapeno, coriander and sweet pepper, the mains are very influenced by New York grill restaurants and you can chose your cooking method from the rotisserie, the grill and the josper oven…

I was enchanted by my crab cakes and lemon marmalade and the delicious grilled aubergine dish paired with a subtle Australian Shaw and Smith Chardonnay.

Really worth the visit – especially at evenings – for the dramatic view and lively cosmopolitan crowd.
